Hearty congratulations to composer Reza Vali, who celebrated his 60th birthday on September 1, in the midst of several guest composer engagements and concert events kicking off a year of celebration for his music. Among the highlights was the world premiere of Vali’s orchestra work Darkness of Fury by the Carnegie Mellon University Symphony led by Ronald Zollman on September 16. The short work is described as “a contemplation of the brutality of war, especially the wars of the Middle East since 1948.” Other recent events we’ve covered include his interview with Australia’s ABC Radio and a guest appearance at Sydney’s Goethe Institut for a concert of his flute music. Stay tuned for additional new works and concert events that remain ahead for the composer during this milestone season. Reza Vali’s music is available from Keiser Classical.
