This summer David Schiff will be working on his second Nonet for string quartet and reed quintet, commissioned by Chamber Music Northwest for their 2015 season. (His first Nonet composed in 2007 is quintessential Schiff–infused with jazz and rhythmic invention reminiscent of Stravinsky.) The collaboration with CMNW and in particular David Shifrin, has produced some truly marvelous works for the clarinet spanning over many years of Schiff’s creative output.
One fine example of such a work will be the premieres by Chamber Music Northwest and the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival of his new Five Pieces and a Ghost from Debussy’s Children’s Corner for clarinet and string quartet. The work follows closely on the heels of another much-anticipated clarinet quintet by Schiff, Borrowed Times, to be published by Lauren Keiser Music, release date to be announced soon.
Schiff is also looking forward to attending the performance of his timpani concerto,Speaking in Drums with timpanist Aaron McDonald at Lake Tahoe Summerfest. More information on David Schiff’s music is available by contacting Lauren Keiser Music Publishing.
