A new album of Gwyneth Walker’s chamber music, When the Spirit Sings, is being released by Centaur Records in 2016. Recorded by Musica Harmonia, it features many of Walker’s best-known string chamber works, including A Vision of Hills for piano trio, Letters to the World for piano quartet, and the title work When the Spirit Sings for piano trio. A newly-composed piece for string trio and clarinet entitled The Peacemakerscompletes the album.
Gwyneth Walker is currently on several new compositions in 2016, including a symphonic work for the Holyoke Civic Orchestra in Massachusetts, to be premiered in October of 2016, and various string chamber and orchestral works.
Gwyneth Walker has been traveling the country attending performances of many of her chamber works. Brass music was featured in an all-Walker concert entitled BRIGHT BRASS in February. Jay Hunsberger, Principal Tuba of the Sarasota (FL) Orchestra, and students from his studio at the University of South Florida, performed many works, including CELESTIAL KEYS (Tuba and Organ) and BELOVED BASS (Tuba and Piano).
In January, Dr. Walker was in Harrisonburg, VA, for an all-Walker program of string chamber music. The performers were “Musica Harmonia,” a piano quartet based primarily at Eastern Mennonite University. The concert program included A VISION OF HILLS (piano trio) and LETTERS TO THE WORLD (piano quartet).
On the horizon, “Musica Harmonia” is preparing to record a CD of Walker string works
in June. A new piano trio has been commissioned by Fairfield University (CT), to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Quick Center for the Arts – October of
2015. For more information on Gwyneth Walker’s instrumental music, contact Lauren Keiser Music Publishing.
